A Special acknowledgement to our dear friend Richard Bennington who wrote “My True Companion” And has recently gone home to be with the Lord.

I first heard Sunnyside when I was living in Washington, DC and on my way to hear the Seldom Scene perform at the renowned Birchmere. It was 1979 and I had just bought their tape Sunnyside Up. I had never heard of the group before, but their music reminded me of the Country Gentlemen or the original Seldom Scene «just ni an all-gospel format.

Come and Dine, Sunnyside’s seventh album, is their first released on CD. It features standards like Heaven and some more obscure pieces such as It’s Beginning to Rain and My True Companion. Ken Cox, one of the group’s founders, provides guitar and lead vocals while Red Roberts, the group’s original banjo player, returns for this release. Dean Nafziger supplies the bass, and new members Randy Rineer and teenager Jef Simon add their respective talents on fiddle and mandolin.

After 23 years, Sunnyside is still producing great music and sharing the gospel. In one of those ironic twists, we now all live near each other in southeastern Pennsylvania. I know I’ve been blessed over the years by their music and I encourage you to enjoy some of the finest bluegrass gospel played today.
